Recently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha and her colleagues from the Institute of Oceanography - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (Academy) have completed the task of restoring 415 maps, digitizing 739 maps and successfully building a database of 2,224 maps in the set of ancient French maps on Vietnamese Sea and East Sea. This is a valuable material source not only for domestic and international scholars researching the East Sea but also valuable scientific evidence, contributing to the enforcement of Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

Monday, 7th October 2013, the first Southeast Asia Workshop in Aquatic Microbial Ecology (ASIAME 2013) is officially opened at the Institute of Oceanography, Nha Trang, Viet Nam. Assoc. Prof. Vo Si Tuan, director of the Institute of Oceanography and Dr. Jean-Pascal Toterront, representative of IRD Viet Nam have been giving the openning speeches.

On April 8th, 2013, at the ceremony held at the Institute of Oceanography (IO), representative from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) announced the decision to appoint Dr. Le Dinh Mau to the Vice Director of IO. Attending the ceremony were Prof. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Party's Central Committee, President of VAST, and some other representatives from VAST’s functional units. As for the Institute of Oceanography, there were IO’s leaders and representatives it’s functional units also.
